Check-out Counter

Place your books on the smooth counter, and the lovely Miss Stevensons will ring them up for you. If you have a membership card, you can receive a 5-10 percent discount.

Also there is a assortment of bookmarks beside the cash register, feel free to buy one or two to help keep your place.

Lynda Picket placed her book on the counter. It was "Superville, A History," and was burned, where she'd came from. She then noticed the bookmark collection by the cash register.

"Cool." She said looking at them.

"Nice selection!" K stated, cheerfully. She waved the wand over the bar code, smiling as it beeped. "Do you have a card?" she asked.

"Uhh... no..." Lynda said. "How would I get one?"

"You just fill out a form and become a happy member. If you include your email address, we can include a bonus of sending you our newest book-list each month." She gently tucked the book into a bag. "Plus we'll notify you of any sales or deals we're having. Want one?"

"Sure," Lynda said. "But... I don't really have an email address..." Not entirely true but she doubted the internet server her email address was in was working now.

"Oh that's fine." K assured her, bending down to dig in a drawer in the counter. "Where are they...ah! Here." she brandished a blue paper form as if she had removed the sword from the stone and laid it down in front of Lynda. "And a pen." she stated, handing over a "Literal Literature" pen.

Lynda thought for a moment. She couldn't exactly put Prince or Picket down. That had the possibility to lead to awkward questions. She looked around the bookstore and found a name.

Potter. She wrote down finally.

Lynda was going to write her birthday but then she realized she didn't exactly know what year it was. And she figured it would be suspicious to ask. So, she decided to leave it blank.

Again, Lynda had to think. She couldn't exactly write the address of the Watchtower... that would lead to awkward questions... Ah! The work address was acceptable right? Number 17, Flustre Fashions, Avenger Avenue

Lynda finished off the other details and handed it back.

"So, have you been in Superville long?"

Not even looking at the form, K folded it and tucked it into a drawer. "Um, yeah I was raised here. Went to elementary school here and graduated from high school here." After pulling out the form again to type the name out in the computer...for the card, she waited a moment and then handed the finished card to Lynda.
"Pretty name." she commented. "I'll give you a 5 percent discount since this is your first time shopping here. So...that comes to 23.75 credits."

"Thanks!" Lynda said handing her the cash. "If you come into Flustre Fashions, I'll give you a free hat of your choosing."

"Oh cool. Thanks." K exclaimed. "I'm K by the way. Nice to meet you." she smiled.

"Lynda." Lynda smiled back. "Lyn for short."

"Okay Lyn. Thanks for shopping at Literal Literature." K continued to smile, happy with the day and everything else...

"Alright..." Lynda said picking up her perchase. Then she thought of something. She was going to face the night alone. Mal and Jamie probably wanted to be left alone. Lisa and James were going out, so was Blake and Mari... And all the other heroes were busy. Wow what a sad life.

"hey," Lynda said turning back. "I'm new in town" in a matter of speaking "wanted to check out the Sandsmark theatre, would you like to come with me?"

K thought about her plans for the night...she didn't have any. "Sure that sounds great. What time?"

"Wonderful." Lynda said glad. "I'm not exactly a shy person but that was a little extovert even for me. Haha it must be the discount..."

"So is 7 alright?"

"Yeah, great. See ya then." K rung the cash register and set Lynda's money in the proper places.

"Cool, so I'll just meet ya in the entrance then ya?" Lynda said. "oh don't worry I'm not a psychopath villain or anything like that."

K chuckled. "Okay sounds great. I wasn't worried about that." Why should she be? After all she was a villain...

Lynda shrugged and smiled. "Just saying."

And with a final wave walked out of the store.

K looked after the nice woman. People were usually not so friendly. Turning back to the book she had been reading she waited for the next customer.

Greg burst through the doorway, having randomly chosen a direction and fleeing. Slamming the door behind him, he fell backwards against the wall. The fresh blood seeped out of his clothing, marking the wall and floor as he started sobbing.

"Oh god...oh god...."

K noticed the weeping man, and raised an eyebrow. Was that...blood?

She hurried around the counter. "Sir? What happened? Are you okay? Should I call 911? Or Villain assistance?" With her X-ray vision she quickly checked for broken bones.

Greg either hadn't heard the woman, or ignored her outright, as he didn't answer her. He brought his hands up around his head and spoke in hushed whispers.

"...blood everywhere...oh god...his arm...his neck...oh god...."

K backed away. "Okay...um...you stay right there." morphing into a small white dog she ran for the door and slipped out into the street. Changing back, she yelled to get someone's attention.

"There is something wrong with a guy in my store!"
