The Graveyard

Phil blinked. "Wha'?" she asked. "Sh' built th' Watchtower..." Phil's accent was getting a bit better. She wasn't as scared. "Lisa was me Mom's best friend. She was me sister's boyfriend's Ma... Sh' was a friend to our family..."

She noticed Rune's face. "Wha'? Wha's wrong?"

Rune tried to compose an expression that looked less haunted. She didn't know if she succeeded. She was weary about answering Phil's question. Sometimes speaking a Vision could cause it.

She doubted there was anything Phil or Harry could do to stop this, but she was weary anyway, "I... Lynda was her daughter? Who's Mari? There was a Mari." She didn't like the sound of her voice. She sounded almost panicked.

Phil laid a hand on the girl's arm. "'ey. It'll be okay... Mari's me ma." Her accent was coming back. She didn't like Rune's tone either. "'ow 'bout ye come back wiv us. We'll go t' m'place."

Rune bit her lip, but nodded. "Yes. That's a good idea." She wanted a nice, hot cup of tea. It wouldn't change anything but... then again, maybe it would.

Harry said, "Aunt Mari lives nearby. Let's go."

For once, Phil followed Harry's lead.

Rune followed them both, nibbling on her bottom lip. She hated being bloody, freaking oracle.

Blake and Mari walked over to Lisa's grave. Mari stood strong and proud. She wasn't proud of what she had done, but it had saved Superville.

Blake said, "Hey, Lisa. What's up?"

Mari smiled haltingly. "How's my favorite non-sister doing in death?"

Sam haltingly walked over. "Hey Lisa. You've got visitors. A few more, and this would be a party. Maybe I was right to consider bringing some strong alcohol to reminisce with."

Mari held up the beer. "Lisa's favorite."

Sam held up a bottle of wine. "Old Christmas present."

Mari laughed. "That was a good vintage too. How come you and Jon never drank it?"

Sam shrugged. "It wasn't the time."

Blake wrapped and arm around Mari. "That I can understand."

Sam held the bottle in one hand, then sighed. "Lisa, you shouldn't have died. Totally ruined the mood of us Supers." She berated the grave.

Blake said, "I have to agree... Supers are hated. I still hate your brother, by the way. He's still a bastard."

Mari grinned. "He might be a bastard, but you know the saying, 'Hug your enemies, it confuses the hell out of them'. It fits..."

Sam nodded. "That's why I hug you, Mari." She joked.

Mari rolled her eyes at her. "Thanks, Sammie."

Samantha just grinned at her friend. Mari's right, it does bug enemies to be hugged.

"Except, Sammy-girl, I'm not your enemy."
